The energy transition is no longer a moral crusade. Its economic realignment. For the first time, global investment in clean energy The energy transition is no longer a moral crusade. Its economic realignment. For the first time, global investment in clean energy has doubled fossil fuel spending: $2.2 trillion to $1.1 trillion. This sends a hard signal of where the next era of value creation is emerging (and where it's not). But this isn't just about how much capital is moving. It’s about where it’s going and what it’s building. Electrification is shifting power away from legacy extraction economies and toward countries and companies that can manufacture, deploy, and scale new systems fast. China understands this — they're electrifying at a pace of 10 percentage points per decade, cementing their position as the world's dominant electrostate. The implications for America are stark, not for lack of capital or innovation, but because our institutions are still optimized for yesterday’s economy. We're at risk of being out-built by countries with clearer industrial strategies and more execution-focused institutions. This moment calls for execution. That means permitting reform. It means workforce pipelines. It means using public capital to unlock private investment at speed and scale. Other nations aren’t hesitating. Read More

Now compare that to another technology: ✅ Costs down over 90% in the same timeframe ✅ Takes just 18 months to deploy ✅ Captured 80% of new market share last year ✅ And is cheaper per unit Which one would you bet on? And yet, in 2025, the federal government is actively tilting the playing field against solar through delays, red tape, and selective enforcement of policy. The Republican Party used to stand for free markets and deregulation. So why the push for gas over solar? Why not let the markets decide? Solar will still win. It has the better technology, the stronger workforce, and the economic tailwinds. But just imagine what we could do if the rules were actually fair. Read More

This is the world's largest #agrivoltaic plant - combining land for solar and agriculture. It has 1 GW of solar This is the world's largest #agrivoltaic plant - combining land for solar and agriculture. It has 1 GW of solar panels and - yes - it's in China. Before the plant was built, the ~100 km² of land was desertified. Alfalfa was initially planted to improve the soil. The perennial flowering plant was then removed while the solar farm was constructed and, once complete, Goji berries were planted underneath the panels. This helped return goji farming to the region and revived an otherwise dead expanse of desert. #Agrivoltaics brings a number of benefits, whether the land is used for crops or grazing animals. In the case of crops: For the agriculture: ➡️ Water conservation. The panels reduce evaporation from the soil, reducing water needs for irrigation. This is especially important in arid or drought-prone areas. ➡️ The shade benefits some crops, reducing heat stress and preventing excessive water loss. For the solar: ➡️ Crops underneath solar panels can reduce the temperature of the panels, stopping them getting so hot that their efficiency drops off. The goji berry farm has successfully turned a large area of desert into arable land. Vegetation coverage has risen from less than 30% to 85%, the panels have reduced land moisture evaporation by 30-40% and the overall ecosystem has also improved, with a significant increase in the number of small wild animals, like sparrows, hares and pheasants. On top of that, the farm provides temporary jobs to about 100,000 farmers because the project needs workers to maintain the goji berry shrubs, pick fruits and clean the panels. And it generates 1.7 TWh of electricity a year ☀️ #energy #sustainability #renewables #energytransition Read More

The tidal wave of giant #batteries coming in Australia will have a significant impact on the grid. We are already The tidal wave of giant #batteries coming in Australia will have a significant impact on the grid. We are already seeing batteries play an increasing role in meeting evening peak demand and just last week a new battery discharge record of nearly 2 GW was set. But the batteries currently operating in Australia are dwarfed by the gigawatt-scale giants that are coming. Renewables developer Neoen is proposing a huge 800 MW / 3,200 MWh battery to accompany the neighbouring Bondo wind farm situated in a pine plantation. The wind far itself is interesting too. At 1.2 GW it would be one of the largest in the country. Siting in a pine plantation means reduced impact on native vegetation and fewer landowners are affected. But it also means taller towers, up to 200 metres high, as blade tips need to be at least 80 metres above the ground to give sufficient clearance above the trees. And just yesterday, a 1,000 MW / 4,000 MWh battery was proposed for a site north of Sydney, close to the Eraring battery and Waratah Super battery, with a primary aim of soaking up solar in the middle of the day and feeding back into the grid during the evening peak. And both these batteries would also be situated close to existing transmission lines, minimising the need for additional infrastructure. Get ready for the wave of big batteries, they're coming! #energy #sustainability #renewables #energytransition Read More

People have been telling stories about renewable energy since the nineteen-seventies, when the first all-solar-powered house opened on the campus People have been telling stories about renewable energy since the nineteen-seventies, when the first all-solar-powered house opened on the campus of the University of Delaware, drawing a hundred thousand visitors in 1973, its first year, to marvel at its early photovoltaic panels and its solar hot-water system, complete with salt tubs in the basement to store heat overnight. But, even though we’ve got used to seeing solar panels and wind turbines across the landscape in the intervening fifty years, we continue to think of what they produce as “alternative energy,” a supplement to the fossil-fuelled power that has run Western economies for more than two centuries. In the past two years, however, with surprisingly little notice, renewable energy has suddenly become the obvious, mainstream, cost-efficient choice around the world. Against all the big bad things happening on the planet (and despite all the best efforts of the Republican-led Congress in recent weeks), this is a very big and hopeful thing, which a short catalogue of recent numbers demonstrates: Read More
