A new artificial intelligence model developed by researchers at the University of California, San Francisco, can predict the progression from mild cognitive impairment to Alzheimer’s disease with high accuracy. The model analyzes brain scans and cognitive test results to identify patterns that precede clinical diagnosis. In trials, it achieved an 85% accuracy rate in forecasting which patients would develop Alzheimer’s within three years. Researchers emphasize the tool is intended to assist clinicians in early intervention planning, not to provide a definitive diagnosis. The study was published in the journal Nature Medicine.
