A new study demonstrates that artificial intelligence models can generate accurate weather forecasts faster and with less computational power than conventional physics-based systems. Researchers developed an AI system trained on decades of historical weather data, which learned to predict atmospheric conditions by identifying complex patterns. In tests, the AI model produced seven-day forecasts with comparable accuracy to leading numerical weather prediction models, but in a fraction of the time. The approach highlights the potential for machine learning to complement or enhance traditional forecasting methods, especially for rapid, high-resolution predictions.
