A new artificial intelligence weather forecasting model has demonstrated superior accuracy compared to conventional physics-based models in a comprehensive global evaluation. The AI system, developed by researchers at a leading tech institute, analyzes decades of historical weather data to predict atmospheric conditions. In head-to-head tests over a six-month period, the AI model provided more accurate temperature, pressure, and precipitation forecasts across multiple regions, particularly excelling in short-term predictions. The study suggests AI could significantly enhance forecast reliability while reducing computational costs. However, researchers note that integrating AI predictions with established physical models may yield the most robust results for operational meteorology. The findings are published in the peer-reviewed journal Nature Communications. Read the full article at https://sciencedaily.com/releases/2024/05/240521123456.htm
